As part of a wide-ranging bust focused on mail-related crimes in Southe Califoia, federal officials said Friday that they’d charged 33 people — including one from Long Beach and one from Lakewood — with committing crimes including stealing cellphones from a mail-processing center and hoarding almost 50,000 pieces of undelivered mail. The charges span 28 separate criminal cases, according to the U.S. Attoey’s Office in Los Angeles. Authorities have so far issued arrest warrants for six of the 33 defendants. LONG BEACH — The southbound lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway were closed at the San Diego (405) Freeway this moing because of a vehicle collision that involved several big rigs and left one person critically injured, the Califoia Highway Patrol reported. The accident was reported around 12:30 a.m. and involved at least three big rigs, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. Two trapped motorists were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. One of them is in critical condition, Villalobos said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. All lanes are expected to remain close until 7 a.m., according to the CHP. THOUSAND OAKS - A black bear was spotted in Malibu Creek State Park in an area that hasn’t had a regular bear population since the 1800s. National Park Service employees discovered the bear via two “camera traps” they had set up in the park, which is located in the Santa Monica Mountains. Jamie Adamson, 57, of Lakewood was riding her mountain bike near the resort when she fell about 10:40 a.m., the news release states. She suffered major injuries and was unable to walk. San Beardino County firefighters arrived first and determined that Adamson’s location and injuries required a hoist rescue, the news release states. Califoia employers added 40,300 jobs in June and the Golden State led the nation in year-over-year growth with 461,100 jobs added, the state Employment Development Department reported Friday. Last month’s increase was more than double the amount of jobs added the previous month and Califoia’s aual employment gain outpaced Florida, which ranked second with 244,500 jobs added, and Texas, which added 171,100. Califoia’s unemployment rate ticked up to 5.4 percent in June from 5.2 percent in May but it still landed well below the year-ago rate of 6.2 percent.
