Long Beach’s Plaing Commission will decide Thursday whether to allow plans and permitting for the Belmont Beach and Aquatic Center to move forward. If all the approvals are granted, the $103 million project would move on to the City Council, then the state Coastal Commission. More than a year after the Califoia Coastal Commission halted the demolition of three waterfalls at Trump National Golf Club, the club was given a go-ahead this week by commission staff to move forward with restoration work. The initial infraction stemmed from demolition work at three man-made waterfalls at Trump National. The club had received a building permit from the city of Rancho Palos Verdes in April 2015, but didn’t get approval from the Coastal Commission for construction work inside the coastal zone. LONG BEACH — A man’s body washed ashore today in the Alamitos Bay area of Long Beach, authorities said. The discovery was made at about 7 a.m. at 62nd Place and Seaside Walk, said Nancy Pratt of the Long Beach Police Department. “There is no indication of foul play,” Pratt said. Police are checking to see if the man matches the description of any missing persons. The man is believed in his 40s, said Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter. The deadline for Palos Verdes Estates to begin making changes at Lunada Bay passed Wednesday, and the city has met only some of the Califoia Coastal Commission’s demands to start making the area more welcoming. In a letter June 6, Coastal Commission Enforcement Agent Jordan Sanchez gave the city until July 6 to start the process of improving public access to Lunada Bay, which has become notorious as the stomping ground for a group of aggressive surfers known as the Bay Boys. A 71-year-old man who beat and kicked a young mother blocking his path into a parking space in Gardena was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison despite pleas for leniency from family members and claims of post-traumatic stress disorder from three tours in Vietnam.
