LYNWOOD >> A man and a woman were killed Monday moing when their vehicle drove off the 710 Freeway and struck a tree in Lynwood, authorities said. The crash was reported at 4:42 a.m. off the northbound 710 Freeway just south of Imperial Highway, said Califoia Highway Patrol Officer Stephan Brandt. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, Brandt said. Firefighters were working to extricate the bodies from the vehicle. LONG BEACH — The southbound lanes of the Long Beach (710) Freeway were closed at the San Diego (405) Freeway this moing because of a vehicle collision that involved several big rigs and left one person critically injured, the Califoia Highway Patrol reported. The accident was reported around 12:30 a.m. and involved at least three big rigs, CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos said. Two trapped motorists were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals. West Nile virus is continuing to spread across the Southland, with vector-control officials aouncing Monday that the virus was detected for the first time this year in six areas. According to the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District, West Nile virus activity was recently detected in Carson, La Habra Heights, Lincoln Heights, Newhall, Tarzana and Willowbrook.
