Walmart hiring new employees for Downey store

Wal-Mart plans to hire some 300 employees for a new store in Downey, the retailer aounced Thursday.

Company executives anticipate the store will open in May at Promenade at Downey shopping center.

Wal-Mart’s hiring center for the new store is scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 7822 Florence Ave. Job seekers can also submit applications online by accessing careers.walmart.com.

The company’s plan to open a store in Downey follows the late January closure of the downtown Long Beach store that was shuttered as part of a global restructuring involving 154 U.S. stores that also included Walmart Neighborhood Market stores in Hawaiian Gardens and Bell Gardens.
