LAX airline reports near collision with drone

There was a near collision with a drone today at Los Angeles Inteational Airport, Federal Aviation Administration officials said.

A Lufthansa A380 pilot reported that a drone passed about 200 feet over the aircraft while it was approaching to land on an LAX runway. The plane was at about 5,000 feet altitude when the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m.

It was not known how many passengers were on board but the jet’s capacity is about 500 according to the airline’s website.

Los Angeles Police Department air support has been notified by the FAA and no other details were immediately available.
