Members of digital rights group Fight for the Future and the ACLU are holding a demonstration and press conference Tuesday outside a federal courthouse in Riverside.
The group plaed the event to coincide with a court hearing for the FBI and Apple Inc. The tech giant objects to a federal judge’s order to help the federal govement access an iPhone used by Syed Rizwan Farook, a gunman in the San Beardino terror attack.
But the hearing was cancelled Monday after the FBI aounced that it may have found a way to access the iPhone. The court scheduled a status update April 5.
Fight for the Future is displaying Idea from people collected through their #SaveSecurity campaign on a television positioned outside the court.
Evan Greer, campaign director of Fight for the Future, said they wanted to bring the more than 20,000 voices into the conversation.
Even though the hearing was canceled today, the fight is not over, Greer said.
After an 11 a.m. press conference, the Idea will be read aloud.
Greer said regardless of the hearing being canceled the FBI was looking to set a precedent. The postponement appears to be a victory for security and civil liberties advocates
