Whittier Christian High group landed in Brussels when terrorists were attacking

LA HABRA — When terrorists attacked Brussels inteational airport and a busy subway station with bombs killing more than 30 and wounding over 100 people, a group of students, teachers and community members from Whittier Christian High School in La Habra had just arrived at the airport.

Whittier Christian High School, located at 501 N. Beach Blvd., was en route to Liberia and the Containers of Hope ministry to help with Ebola orphans, according to the school.

The school posted on its Facebook page that the group had just arrived at the airport when the bombs exploded.

“They are safe and are currently in an airport hangar as they wait to leave the area,” school officials said on its Facebook page. “Please pray that they will be able to leave Brussels soon and they they will be able to minister to those around them.”

In an update posted late Tuesday, officials said, “Thank you for your prayers. The team is out of the airport hangar and is now in an area set up by the Red Cross. They are grateful for warmth, food and cots to sleep on. They are being told that the airport will probably be closed until Thursday.”
