An unknown amount of oil was spilled into the Los Angeles Harbor Thursday moing, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.

The Coast Guard was notified about 10:45 a.m. of an “oily-water mixture” coming from a holding tank at the Vopak Terminal, officials said.

The terminal is in the area of berths 186-191.

“A majority of the oil released has been reported as being contained on the pier, however, some of the oil water mixture entered the water,” according to a Coast Guard statement.

Crews were using booms, skimmers and absorbent pads to contain and remove the oil, officials said.

A tanker ship moored inside the terminal has been ordered not to leave the port until it has been decontaminated, according to the Coast Guard.
