Prosecutor files felony charges against Long Beach man accused of robbing cab driver

Prosecutors filed felony charges Thursday against a Long Beach man who allegedly robbed a taxi cab driver.

Burrell Andre Gaither, 25, was arrested on a suspicion of robbery after police found a recording of the alleged crime on the cab’s onboard video system.

When police arrested Gaither on March 29 in the 1000 block of Raymond Avenue, officers also found him in possession of a loaded handgun.

Police said the crime occurred March 24 at about 9 p.m. in the 2300 block of E. Anaheim Street. Gaither got in the cab and demanded the driver’s property, taking his cell phone, wallet and keys to the taxi, police said. He then fled on foot.

The driver was not injured.

The Los Angeles County District Attoey’s Office filed one count of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm against Gaither.

He is being held in Long Beach City Jail without bail due to a violation of his parole.

An arraignment is scheduled at the Long Beach Superior Court on Friday.
