Long Beach police investigating Thursday night shooting, second homicide in just over 24 hours

Long Beach police are investigating a fatal shooting on the south end of Cambodia Town — the city’s second homicide in a little more than 24 hours.

Officers responded to a shots call at 11:48 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of E. 11th Street, said Lt. Kerry Giesige, a watch commander with the department. Once at the scene, they located a male juvenile suffering gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Giesige said. The shooting remains under investigation.

No further information was available as of 1:20 a.m. Friday.

Police are also investigating a fatal shooting that happened in the 1600 block of Pine Avenue north of downtown Long Beach late Wednesday night. The victim, identified only as a man in his 40s, was approached by two men who shot him multiple times, police said.

The shooters were seen fleeing the area and may have then been involved in a physical altercation with another man in the area of 16th Street and Locust Avenue, police said. They have not been detained.

Police continue to investigate both shootings.
