Woman stabbed to death in South Gate, man in custody

SOUTH GATE — A woman was fatally stabbed in South Gate, and a man was taken into custody as a suspect in the death, authorities said today.

The crime was reported about 7:10 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of Pendleton Avenue, the sheriff’s department reported.

The woman, in her 30s, died at a hospital, coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. Her name was withheld, pending notification of kin.

The name of the suspect was not immediately released. Sheriff’s homicide detectives assisted South Gate police in the investigation.
