A plaed strike at Califoia State University’s 23 campuses next week has been averted, at least for now.

A statement released by the Califoia Faculty Association Thursday afteoon, April 7, said it is postponing the five-day walkout that was to begin April 13 because it has reached a tentative contract agreement with the CSU administration. The faculty union represents 26,000 professors, instructors and other campus persoel.

No details were released in the statement. CSU Chancellor Tim White and union president Jeifer Eagan will hold a joint press conference at 10 a.m. Friday to aounce the agreement.

The union and CSU management have been locked in a stalemate since negotiations began last May for the 2015-2016 academic year. Management offered a 2 percent raise to its faculty members, in line with what other CSU employees, including administrators, had agreed to for the year. The union asked for 5 percent.

A third-party fact-finding report released in March recommended the CSU give the faculty the 5 percent it was asking for. The report said the administration needed to help make up for years of salary stagnation caused by the recent recession.
