Public memorial for late P-T columnist Tom Heessy to be held this month

A public memorial service for Tom Heessy, longtime columnist for the Press-Telegram who died April 2, will be held later this month.

The service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. April 30 in the auditorium on the Liberal Arts Campus at Long Beach City College, 4901 E. Carson St.

Public Editor Rich Archbold said the service will celebrate the life of Heessy who wrote a column for the Press-Telegram for more than 30 years. More details will be aounced soon.

In lieu of flowers, the Heessy family is suggesting that donations be made in Heessy’s name to the Press-Telegram’s Send-a-Kid-to-Camp fund which he started 17 years ago. The fund sends needy kids to a week in summer camp in local mountains. Youths sent to camps this year are going to be called “Tom’s Kids.”

Contributions can also be made by credit card.
