A coalition of Long Beach social justice organizations will hold an educational workshop on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a controversial trade agreement among 12 countries including the U.S., Australia and Vietnam that was signed in February.
May Day Long Beach opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership and will hold the workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 905 Atlantic Ave. in Long Beach. The workshop is part of a series leading up to the coalition’s Long Beach May Day March, May 1 at 2 p.m. at MacArthur Park.
The trade agreement has faced substantial controversy both before and after being signed. Its supporters say it will bolster U.S. exports and strengthen the economy while its detractors say the agreement hurts workers and the environment.
