Woman killed Wednesday in Long Beach apartment is identified

Authorities today identified a woman who was found dead in a Long Beach apartment near Cambodia Town Wednesday afteoon.

Karina Duch, 40, of Los Angeles, was found by police after officers responded to a call of a disturbance. Officers encountered a wounded man who threatened them with a knife and tried to keep them from entering the complex, police said Thursday.

There was no official cause of death released, but the woman was suffering from stab wounds, officials said. The woman was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m.

Police had to use less-than-lethal options to take the uncooperative man into custody at the apartment complex in the 1200 block of Stanley Avenue at 12:50 p.m., said Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson.

The unidentified man was taken to a hospital with at least one stab wound and was listed in critical condition, according to the sergeant. He was regarded as a possible suspect, but his relationship, if any, to the as-yet unidentified dead woman was unclear, police said.

Homicide detectives were sent to the scene.

The man’s name was not released.
