O'Doell to honor 27 Long Beach women at event this month

Assemblyman Patrick O’Doell, D-Long Beach, will host the aual Women of Distinction event on April 22, in recognition of women’s achievements in the 70th Assembly District.

Honorees were nominated by their colleagues in one of five categories – Arts, Business, Community Service, Education and Health Services – and selected by O’Doell.

“The leadership and dedication demonstrated by each of our honorees represents the very best of what our community has to offer,” O’Doell said in a news release. “I am grateful for the opportunity to recognize the inspirational role these women play in the lives of others and express our appreciation for their invaluable contributions.”

O’Doell will also recognize a Woman of the Year, Chan Hopson, at the event. Hopson, a health and higher education advocate, joined O’Doell on the Assembly Floor last month for the Califoia State Assembly’s Woman of the Year ceremony.

The 2016 Women of Distinction Honorees are: LaDawn Best, Marilyn Bittle, Becky Blair, Karen Bloch, Cheyee Bryant, Herlinda Chico, Alissa Cohn, Bev Cook, Lavee Duncan, Diana Eastman, Lana Farfan, Rae Gabelich, Linda Grimes, Michele Grubbs, Melissa Guy, Judie Jacobus, Kimberly Johnson, Adele Langworthy, Cheryl McKnight, Jan Maize, Kathryn Miles, Cindy Orozco, Pearline Railey-Neal, Caroline Rickard, Laura Som McMillin, Andrea Sulsona and Mona Sutton.
