UPDATE: Long Beach man arrested in death of his longtime girlfriend on Wednesday

A man was arrested on suspicion of murder for the death of his long-time girlfriend, with whom he had two young children.

Police on Thursday said Karina Duch, 40, of Los Angeles, was found dead in a Long Beach apartment near Cambodia Town Wednesday afteoon.

When officers arrived in the 1200 block of Stanley Avenue at about 1 p.m. they found the suspected killer, Ngounsay Keo, 59, of Long Beach, suffering from a self-inflicted stab wound. He and the victim had been in a relationship for 23 years, and had two children – one of whom was next door at the time of the incident.

Police said the man was uncooperative “and refused officers commands to drop the knife and let them into the residence to check the well being of other possible occupants,” according to a statement from Sgt. Bradley Johnson.

Police used less lethal means to subdue the man before entering the apartment, he said.

“Once officers were able to detain the uncooperative subject they entered the location and found an adult female deceased in another part of the residence from an apparent stab wound to the upper torso,” Johnson said.

Keo was taken to the hospital by Long Beach Fire Department persoel, where he underwent emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition, Johnson said.

He was also booked for one count of murder, with bail set at $2 million.

The couple have two children, a 14-year-old and a 7-year-old, who was next door at the time of the incident. The children have been placed with family.
