Long Beach police are investigating the death of a motorcyclist who plummeted to his death off a transition road from the Gerald Desmond Bridge in the predawn hours Saturday.
Officers were dispatched around 1:06 a.m. to a call of a single vehicle traffic collision near the bridge and the 710 Freeway, police said.
The man, identified as a 25-year-old Torrance resident, was lying on eastbound Ocean Boulevard below the transition road, police said. Fire department paramedics determined he was dead at the scene.
His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, police said.
A preliminary investigation revealed the man was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge transition road to the northbound 710 Freeway, police said. He crashed into the south k-rail as the roadway tued from eastbound to northbound and was ejected from his motorcycle onto Ocean Boulevard below. No other vehicles or parties were involved in this incident.
Authorities continue to investigate why the man crashed, police said.
