Sanders, Clinton campaigns converge on California

While Hillary Clinton holds two fundraisers - one with George Clooney in San Francisco tonight at $100,000 per couple and one in Los Angeles Saturday - Beie Sanders will counter in Califoia with an ad that highlights his claim that his contributions average just $27 per person.

The Califoia primary isn’t until June 7 but both candidates have been eyeing The Golden State for weeks with a series of fundraisers, rallies and speeches.

Sanders supporters are gathering Sunday at 1 p.m. at the coer of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Figueroa Street for a rally that will feature speakers and performances from Flower Punks, Valida and Vision and the campaign said they are expecting 5,000 to attend.

The Sanders campaign is also gearing up for the opening of a grassroots office in Los Angeles.

A field poll released last week showed Clinton with her narrowest lead yet over the Vermont senator - a 6 point deficit. But the former first lady and secretary of state leads Sanders in the delegate count on the way to securing the Democratic presidential nomination in Philadelphia this summer.

Clinton has 1,292 to 1,042 delegates for Sanders, according to Real Clear Politics. New York is the next contest, with 247 delegates at stake. Voters there will go to the polls on Tuesday.

But Califoia is the biggest prize with 475 delegates at stake in its primary.

The attention on Califoia has been heightened in recent weeks as Sanders has strung together a series of victories, including Wisconsin, where he took 48 delegates to Clinton’s 38. But Clinton leads in unpledged delegates.

To vote in the Califoia primary, you must be registered by May 23.
