San Pedro's Cabrillo Marine Aquarium earns accreditation

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums has granted accreditation to the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro.

“Only zoos and aquariums that meet the highest standards are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums,” said AZA interim President and CEO Kris Vehrs.

To ea the accreditation, the aquarium underwent a thorough review that included assessments of its animal care, veterinary, conservation, education and safety programs.

The AZA, a nonprofit founded in 1924, is the accrediting body for the top zoos and aquariums in the U.S. and in eight other countries.

The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, located on Cabrillo Beach at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro, offers an array of programs such as grunion runs, tidepool walks and exhibits.
