1 dead, 3 wounded in shooting on Long Beach's East 17th Street

LONG BEACH — Three men were hospitalized today -- two in serious condition and one critically wounded -- after a shooting that claimed another man’s life on a street in Long Beach, police said.

The shooting took place in the 1200 block of East 17th Street in Long Beach around 8:40 p.m. Monday, said Long Beach Lt. Paul Baum. The shooter remains at large.

“The men were shot on the street,” Baum said this moing. “We don’t know what happened or if it was gang-related at this point.”

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, Baum said. His name was withheld pending family notification. Another of the victims was in very critical condition, and the other two were in serious but stable condition this moing.

Baum said homicide detectives were at the scene early today. But police did not immediately develop information on a suspect or a motive.
