'Veep,' 'Rosewood' help boost location filming in SoCal to record quarter

Location filming in Los Angeles jumped 11 percent in the first quarter of 2016 from a year earlier, logging a record 9,703 shoot days thanks in part to a lineup of television shows including “Veep,” “Animal Kingdom,” “Rosewood” and “Twin Peaks,” an industry tracker said Tuesday.

The film sector led the way with location shooting soaring 24 percent to 1,145 shoot days as the industry responded to a more robust Califoia Film & Television Tax Credit Program, said Film.LA.

FilmL.A. is a nonprofit organization that serves as the official film office of the city of Los Angeles, L.A. County and 20 other jurisdictions.

Along with other feature projects, four films retained by the state’s incentive program were in production during the last quarter, generating 155 shoot days of filming, the organization said. Those films were “The God Particle,” “Please Stand By,” “Sentence” and “Why Him.”

“We predicted we’d see a boost in feature production in the first quarter thanks to the state tax credit, and we’re glad to see that happening,” FilmL.A. President Paul Audley said in a statement. “In addition, as the non-incentivized counts show, Los Angeles remains a popular choice among film, television and commercial producers.”

For example, “Veep” moved to Los Angeles from Maryland last year because the state sweetened its incentive program.

Television production in the quarter increased 19 percent from a year ago to log 3,944 shoot days in the first quarter, Film L.A said.
