Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia’s office aounced he will travel to Washington, D.C. at the head of a delegation formed to lobby Congressional representatives and other federal officials on matters of local interest.

City Council members Stacy Mungo and Rex Richardson are also part of the delegation, as are representatives of Long Beach Transit, the Port of Long Beach and the city’s Water Department. The group plans to meet with federal officials from the White House and other agencies to discuss issues as the Army Corps of Engineers study to determine any possible ecological benefits that may follow modifications to the Long Beach Breakwater.

The delegation’s schedule also includes talks on transportation and housing policies, according to Garcia’s office.

Long Beach officials are also interested in discussing economic development in the aftermath of Boeing Co.’s move to shut down the C-17 Globemaster III plant and policies benefitting at-risk youth.

Garcia plans to travel to Washington on Tuesday and to retu to Long Beach on Friday.
