Man killed in Firestone Park area north of Watts

FIRESTONE PARK — A man was shot and killed today in unincorporated Firestone Park, north of Watts, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Responding to a call about a gunshot victim in the 1900 block of Firestone Boulevard about 1:40 a.m., officers found a man on the ground suffering from multiple shots to his upper torso, Deputy Grace Medrano said.

Witnesses saw the victim walking on the sidewalk on Firestone Boulevard when a dark vehicle approached and a male inside fired numerous times, Medrano said. Investigators have not determined the motive for the attack or if the crime was gang-related, she said.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
