Long Beach police investigating shooting in South Wrigley

Long Beach police are investigating a shooting in the South Wrigley District Thursday afteoon.

Officers responded to a shooting call at 2:18 p.m. in the 1900 block of Pine Avenue, said Sgt. Bradley Johnson, a police spokesman, in an email. A person was seen shooting a gun into the air according to initial reports to police.

Police were then notified that an adult man arrived at a local hospital saying he had been shot in the 1800 block of Pine Avenue. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower torso. The injury is non life-threatening.

The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang related, Johnson said. No suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
