Coachella 2016: High winds forecasted for Sunday afternoon

It’s going to be another wild and windy day at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival.

An alert sent via the Coachella smartphone app waed campers that strong winds are on the way.

“We have a strong wind advisory late this afteoon into the evening,” the alert said. “Please take the tops off your tents before entering the festival and prepare for dust.”

Winds in the afteoon could have gusts as strong as 20 miles per hour, said Jimmy Taeger, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

Starting around 7 or 8 p.m., gusts could increase to 35 miles per hour, Taeger waed.

Gusts should die down to around 20 mph oveight before they jump to as strong as 40 miles per hour Monday afteoon.

Temperatures will remain in the 80s during the day. Sunday’s high is forecasted to be 88 and Monday will likely cool to 80. Sunday’s oveight low should be around 62.
