Coachella 2016: From Stapleton to Rancid to Sia to Dre, all the best of Day 3

INDIO >> Sunday wrapped up the second weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, with more than 160 performers playing six major stages.

Among the highlights were Rancid, the Bay Area punk band that thanked Coachella promoter Goldenvoice and its leader Paul Tollett during an energetic afteoon set that had multiple mosh pits going as the band played cuts primarily from its mid-’90s classics “Let’s Go” and “...And Out Come the Wolves.”

Also:

• In the Gobi Tent, singer/songwriter Pete Yo paid tribute to Prince, who died Thursday, by opening with a little bit of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” a song Prince wrote that became a hit for Sinead O’Coor.

• Country star Chris Stapleton packed the Gobi Tent, with the crowd going wild for “Traveler.” Stapleton will cross over to the Stagecoach country music festival this weekend.

• Sia performed an encore of her elaborate live music film that dominated the first weekend again on closing night on the Coachella stage. Filled with mode choreography, Sia’s set again featured dancers mimicking the moves of pre-recorded videos from actors such as Paul Dano and Kristen Wiig, with the set ending with the hit “Chandelier.”

• But the bigger splash Sunday night was Anderson.Paak, who brought out not only Grammy-wiing rapper Kendrick Lamar, but also Dr. Dre. Both guested Saturday night during Ice Cube’s set and Dre performed “Califoia Love” a second time during the weekend on stage in the overflowing Mojave Tent.

• Saxophonist Kamasi Washington brought jazz to Coachella with an energetic set at the Outdoor Theatre that had more oomph than weekend one.
