ANAHEIM >> About 50 protesters, half for Donald Trump and half against, were confronting each other Tuesday afteoon in front of Anaheim City Hall, where officials are poised to discuss tonight a resolution denouncing the campaign rhetoric of the Republican presidential candidate.
A Trump supporter and a young girl were sprayed in the face with pepper spray during an altercation with counter protesters.
The woman, wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap, was hit on the left side of her face. Her grandchild also was hit.
Paramedics were seen pouring water on their eyes to try and remove the stinging spray. The young girl cried hysterically.
Claremont-based We the People Rising had organized a rally in front of City Hall to show support for Trump and criticize Councilwoman Kris Murray, who introduced the resolution.
Carrying American flags and signs that read “Make America Great Again,” “We love Trump” and “Trump for President,” the vocal crowd often chanted “U-S-A” and “Trump All The Way.”
Chanell Temple, an African American woman in her 60s, drove in from Los Angeles to carry a “Black for Trump” sign and voice her support.
“I really believe Donald Trump can make America great again,” Temple said. “His movement will unite everybody to make a great America. With his business acumen, he can help the black community get jobs.”
The pro-Trump protesters were met by another group of mostly young people.
As helicopters hovered above and the two sides yelled at each other, one Santa Ana resident, Naui Huitzilopozhtl, walked around with a camera and got up close to protesters to videotape them.
“Donald Trump represents hate,” he said.
The resolution proposed by Murray would condemn “the divisive rhetoric of presidential candidate Donald Trump as contrary to the fundamental principles” of the constitutions of Califoia and the United States and as not reflecting Anaheim’s “guiding principles of inclusiveness and kindness.”
