Amazon is scheduled to open a pick-up location at Cal State Long Beach’s University Bookstore by September, a university official said Wednesday.
The 2,500-square-foot space, called Amazon@TheBeach, also will take order retus. Amazon will renovate and move into the space that housed the bookstore’s Campus Copy Center, said Kierstin Stickney, spokeswoman for the Forty-Niner Shops, the non-profit auxiliary partner with CSULB that operates many of the commercial businesses on campus, including the Art Store, ID card services, retail dining, residential dining, convenience stores, catering, concession services, and the Beach on 2nd Street, the apparel store located in Belmont Shore.
Anyone will be able to use the location as a delivery destination or for retus, Stickney said.
The web retailer and CSULB aounced the location agreement - Amazon’s second at a Southe Califoia university - in a press statement.
“We are proud to be one of the first to partner with Amazon in this capacity,” Don Penrod, CEO of the Forty-Niner Shops, said in a statement.
Amazon also operates a similar location at U.C. Santa Barbara.
In addition to CSULB, the online giant will open four other locations this year, including one at U.C. Davis.
Amazon Student and Prime members will receive free, same-day pickup for orders placed by noon and free, 1-day pickup for orders placed by 10 p.m. For more information about Amazon Student, visit www.amazon.com/joinstudent.
