Seal Beach police searching for man who tried to lure girl into his truck

Seal Beach police are looking for a man they say tried to lure a girl into his truck.

The victim’s age was not disclosed by police to protect her privacy. The incident happened around 2:45 p.m. April 15 when the man approached the girl as she walked to her residence on the 200 block of 16th Street.

The girl saw the man standing near a retaining wall, police said. He asked her if she wanted to check out his new car and get into it.

She told police that the man was not standing near any vehicle, did not appear to have keys in his hand and didn’t motion toward any vehicle. She tued around and walked toward a neighboring house.

The girl told police she thought the man followed her for a time but then tued into a nearby alley. She then saw him drive away in a gold, newer model, two-door Chevrolet truck that was parked in the alley behind her residence.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male in his 50s, about 5-foot-7 with a medium build and short, black hair and black mustache with a beard. He was wearing a plain green t-shirt, navy blue sweatpants and a silver wristwatch on his left wrist, police said. The man was also carrying a clear, purple reusable water bottle.

Police are asking the public for help identifying the suspect. Anyone with any information about this suspect is urged to contact Detective Joe Hardin at 562-799-4100 ext. 1108.
