Santa Fe Springs tar truck explosion critically injures 2

SANTA FE SPRINGS — An explosion on a truck parked at an industrial location in Santa Fe Springs today left two people critically injured, authorities said.

The blast in the 13600 block of Orden Drive was reported about 6:30 a.m., the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department reported.

According to the preliminary report, the explosion involved a tanker truck that was carrying about 4,000 gallons of tar used in roofing jobs, as well as smaller tanks of propane, the fire department reported.

Firefighters worked to cool the tanker truck in the aftermath of the blast. The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
