
Family and friends of Sean Harvell, a decorated veteran who was found drowned off Alamitos Beach last week, are asking for the public’s help to raise money for his 6-year-old daughter, Lilly.
A GoFundMe page with a $250,000 goal was set up Tuesday. About $6,770 have been raised as of Thursday moing.
Harvell’s death is being considered possibly accidental by law enforcement. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will make a final ruling on cause of death after an autopsy and toxicology test are complete, which typically takes several weeks.
Harvell received two Silver Stars for actions during combat in Afghanistan and was one of the U.S. Air Force’s most highly decorated airmen.
Harvell’s younger brother, Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew W. Harvell, 26, died Aug. 6, 2011 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, when a CH-47 Chinook helicopter he was in crashed after being hit with enemy fire from Taliban insurgents.
A funeral for Sean Harvell will be held Friday at Los Angeles National Cemetery.
