Homeless man rescued after being trapped under vehicle near Bixby Park

Long Beach firefighters rescued a homeless man who was trapped under a vehicle near Bixby Park just before noon Thursday.

Units were called to the area of 2nd Street and Cherry Avenue in Alamitos Beach where they found the man trapped under a vehicle, said Brian Fisk, a Long Beach Fire Department spokesman. Firefighters used high-pressure airbags to create enough clearance to move the man.

He was transported to a trauma hospital with unknown injuries, Fisk said.

Investigators believe the man had been drinking and fell asleep on the street, he said. A resident did not see the man while parking in that spot and pied the man undeeath.

Long Beach police were also called to the scene, Fisk said.
