Police have South Gate residence surrounded in standoff

SOUTH GATE — Authorities today surrounded a residence in South Gate where a person was thought to be barricaded.

The incident began about 3 a.m. when some shots were heard that apparently were coming from a residence on Santa Ana Street near Califoia Avenue, authorities said.

Some evacuations were ordered. South Gate police and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were sent to the scene. The standoff was continuing more than three hours later, though it was not immediately known if the suspect was still inside the building.
