Photo released of car believed to be involved in fatal Long Beach hit-and-run

Long Beach police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash two weeks ago.

Police on Tuesday moing released a photo of the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash — a 2005-2009, white Dodge Charger.

The victim, 27-year-old Buena Park resident William Mendoza, died at the scene of the crash around 1:15 a.m. at E. 7th Street and Redondo Avenue on April 25.

Authorities believe Mendoza may have been trying to commit suicide.

“The call indicated a male subject was jumping in front of traffic, in an attempt to be hit, and eventually laid down in the roadway,” police said in a statement. “A moment later, officers were notified that the individual was struck by a vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene.”

Police found Mendoza unconscious and not breathing. Long Beach Fire Department persoel determined he was dead at the scene.
