In what is considered a milestone, testing of whether there has been a successful killing of a leaking Southe Califoia Gas Co. well above Porter Ranch is now under way, a state official said today.
“From what I understand, there was some issue yesterday with extremely windy conditions at the site, but testing has now begun,” said Don Drysdale, spokesman for the Califoia Department of Conservation.
Crews will conduct five tests, sending various tools down the troubled well — called Standard Seson 25 — to determine whether cement pumped into SS-25 via a relief well was successful in stopping the gas leak.
The DOC’s Division of Oil, Gas & Geothermal Resources will review the results and make the final call. The results could be aounced in several days.
The leak was discovered on Oct. 23, 2015, and it was stopped on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. During the ensuing 111 days, SS-25 pumped more than 100,000 pounds of methane into the atmosphere, according to the Califoia Air Resources Board.
