
A retired Seal Beach police sergeant died Sunday from complications after suffering a stroke.
Sgt. Michael Vasquez, 68, worked a number of assignments, including patrol officer, traffic investigator, detective and patrol sergeant, for the Seal Beach Police Department from February 1969 until his retirement in February 2003, said Sgt. Michael Henderson, a department spokesman, in a statement.
Vasquez was bo in Casa Grande, Arizona, and graduated from Eloy Union High School in 1965, Henderson said. He eaed an associate’s degree from Golden West College.
He was an avid golfer, a fan of World War II movies and NASCAR, Henderson said. Vasquez’s favorite driver is Dale Eahardt Sr.
Vasquez is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane; children Melissa Vasquez and Tristyn Ingallinera and grandchildren Michael and Lillian Ingallinera.
A viewing will be held Friday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, 6201 E. Willow St. in Long Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Stroke Support Association of Long Beach. They hold meetings every Tuesday from 10-11:30 a.m. at Califoia Heights United Methodist Church, 3759 Orange Ave. Contact the association at 562-537-0556 or [email protected].
