Long Beach police released more information Monday on a fatal traffic collision Saturday night in Central Long Beach, near Signal Hill, involving two cars and a pedestrian.

A Long Beach man, 59, attempted to cross mid-block, westbound on Cherry Avenue just south of 19th Street when he was hit by a Jeep Patriot being driven by a Long Beach woman, 19. The Jeep was traveling south on Cherry behind a Honda Civic, driven by a 23-year-old Long Beach man, who had swerved to avoid the man.

The Jeep also swerved after hitting the pedestrian, side-swiping the Civic.

Neither of the drivers were injured, but both cars were damaged.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics shortly after the collision at 8:26 p.m. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
