County leaders extend reward in unsolved Long Beach murder

The Board of Supervisors Tuesday renewed a $10,000 reward in an effort to solve a fatal shooting in Long Beach.

Supervisor Don Knabe recommended extending the reward in the case of 22- year-old Jeremy Coell McFarland to help draw out reluctant witnesses. The reward, set to expire May 22, will now be available for at least another 90 days.

About 4 a.m. last Sept. 24, McFarland’s body was discovered on a grass parkway in the 700 block of East 56th Street, around the coer from where he once lived. He had been shot in the chest.

Several witnesses said they heard the shots, but no one has come forward to provide a description. A half-dozen .32-caliber shell casings and one bullet were recovered from the scene.

Knabe, who said McFarland had family in the area, asked anyone with more information to call Long Beach homicide Detectives Malcolm Evans or Mark Bigel at 562-570-7244.
