Long Beach Unified's Hill Middle School hosts a farewell party

Hill Classical Middle School, which will close after this school year to make way for the Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science, hosted a final reunion on Friday for all former students, parents, staff and families, who were invited to bring photos and share memories.

The phase-out of Hill Classical started in late 2013 when the Long Beach Unified Board of Education voted to close the school, due to declining enrollment, and convert it to the Sato Academy of Mathematics and Science. The school is modeled after the district’s renowned Califoia Academy of Mathematics and Science on the Cal State Dominguez Hills campus.

The 2015-2016 academic year is the first year for ninth graders at the Sato Academy.
