WILMINGTON >> An 88-year-old man was critically injured and his 6-year-old granddaughter was also hurt when they were struck in a crosswalk in Wilmington by a car, according to Los Angeles police.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Anaheim Street and Bay View Avenue at 8:25 p.m. Friday, according to a LAPD desk officer at South Traffic Division.
“The gentleman is in grave condition,” the desk officer said. “He’s in surgery early this moing and the little girl was in stable condition at the hospital.”
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, she said. There was no indication the driver was impaired. Apparently, he just didn’t see them in the crosswalk. However, speed appeared to be a factor.
The driver was not cited or arrested, the desk officer said. The crash remained under investigation.
