Highway 330 shut down after bus with 22 onboard overturns near San Bernardino

San Beardino >> A small tour bus carrying 22 passengers onboard overtued Sunday afteoon on Highway 330 two miles north of the 210 Freeway injuring nearly two-dozen people and blocking the roadway in both directions.

Califoia Highway Patrol officials stopped all traffic in both directions shutting it down northbound at Highland Avenue and southbound from the Ranger station to allow first responders access to patients.

“At one point, there was contact between the front of the 2000 El Dorado bus and the rear of a 2013 Nissan Versa before the bus overtued at 2:11 p.m.,” CHP spokesman Juan Quintero said.

There were a total of 22 passengers onboard the bus at the time of the crash, Ke said.

AMR ambulances were lined up one after the other to take the patients from the crash scene to various area hospitals. Six of the passengers sustained major but non life-threatening injures, Quintero said. No passengers in the Versa were injured.

Multiple agencies assisted San Beardino County Fire including CHP, National Forest Service, San Beardino City Fire, San Manuel Fire, American Medical Response ambulances, San Beardino County Sheriff’s and Highland Police departments.

Patients were assessed and treated at a makeshift triage area at the crash scene before being transported.

Several of the first responders said they smelled the distinct odor of overheated brakes when they first arrived on scene, but Quintero said it’s too early in the investigation .

CHP officials say the roadway will be closed for several hours and motorists should avoid the area or seek alteative routes.

Signage on the bus indicates it belongs to Ministerios Llamada Final, a church in Downey. The church could not be reached for comment.

The bus will be taken as evidence and will undergo an inspection as part of the state’s investigation.

The CHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the cause of the crash.
