Bernie Sanders addresses the faithful in East LA

Beie Sanders swooped onto a crowed-filled East L.A. ballfield Monday, where he made a pitch for free college tuition, hit back at his critics and assailed joblessness and greed.

“When kids can’t find jobs and when kids are hanging out on street coers, bad things happen,” he told the crowd gathered at Lincoln Park.

“Beie! Beie! Beie” the crowd chanted.

Like a musician who keeps adding concert dates -- National City, Vista, Irvine -- Monday moing in East Los Angeles, then hours later in Santa Monica Sanders has been canvassing Califoia ahead of the June 7 primary.

He’ll get to Anaheim on Tuesday.

The presidential hopeful trails Democratic front-ruer Hillary Clinton in delegates and would need a combination of a huge win in the Golden State and the flipping of superdelegates from the former secretary of state’s column to his.

Sanders’ East L.A. visit was a last-minute add to his swing through Southe Califoia. The campaign set up a stage on a baseball infield at Lincoln Park -- the podium set near the pitchers’ mound and supporters were fenced in deep to the edge of the grass leading to the outfield.

By mid-moing, thousands had arrived carrying signs, waving baers and filled with hope.

“I’ve never thought of any other outcome other than Beie,” Scott said. “I’m just as hopeful as I was when I first leaed about him.”

The 27-year-old from Los Angeles, wearing four buttons and a Sanders T-shirt with another one draped over her shoulder, said she has been working on her family and one friend -- a Clinton backer -- to vote for Sanders.

“I’ve had more success with my family -- other than my Republican dad,” she said.

Scott plaed to vote next month, though Monday is a critical day for both campaigns. It’s the last day to register to cast a ballot in the primary. It also marks a busy week for the campaigns as they continue to ramp up appearances in Califoia in search of the state’s 475 delegates.

Clinton is in Los Angeles Monday for a fundraiser and will have an appearance with U.S. Rep. Karen Bass Tuesday before speaking at a rally in Riverside that afteoon. Sanders will start Tuesday moing with a rally in Anaheim.

Even Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, will travel to Los Angeles Wednesday for a fundraiser hosted by long-time friend Thomas Barrack, a private equity investor who is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of L.A.-based Colony Capital.

Trump will then hold an event at the Anaheim Convention Center at noon on Wednesday.

Sanders has vowed to keep dogging Clinton through the end of the primary season, but Clinton is fewer than 100 delegates from securing the presidential nomination. Sanders trails Clinton overall by 756 delegates but only by 271 pledged delegates.
