Bernie Sanders hopes to debate Donald Trump before California's primary

POMONA >> Could there be a debate between Democratic presidential candidate Beie Sanders — still battling Hillary Clinton to become their party’s nominee — and Republican candidate Donald Trump before the Califoia primary June 7?

It looks like both candidates are willing.

Earlier this week, Sanders told Jimmy Kimmel off air he’d be willing to debate Trump, and the ABC talk show host tued around and asked Trump on his Wednesday show if Trump was game. He was, saying it “would have such high ratings.”

Sanders told this news organization before taking the stage at a campaign event Thursday evening in Pomona that he hopes all the bluster is for real.

“You know, I challenged Trump and he took it up, then he retreated and now it looks like he’s back on again,” Sanders said. “So who knows?”

Not only does he hope the debate comes to fruition, Sanders said, but he also hopes it happens in Califoia before the state’s primary elections.

“That would be the goal. That would absolutely be my goal,” Sanders said. “You know, Secretary Clinton had agreed many months ago to debate in

Califoia. She changed her mind and that’s a bit unfair to the people of Califoia. … I’m glad Trump wants to debate and I’m looking forward to it.”
