Covina man facing felonies for stealing identities and theft in Long Beach

A Covina man is facing several felony counts that allege he used stolen identities to open credit cards that he used to make payments on high-end cars, eat at expensive restaurants and make other purchases.

Jason Allen Sorenson, 38, was arraigned at Long Beach Superior Court Thursday and was released after posting $255,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges, including six counts of identity theft and three counts of grand theft.

Long Beach police began their investigation in December 2015 after victims reported they had their identities stolen, police said. Detectives later found three credit card account holders owed balances of more than $100,000.

Authorities say Sorenson used multiple individuals’ personal information to open the credit cards in order to buy expensive sports memorabilia, make lease payments for three Lexus vehicles, dine at restaurants and buy clothing and electronics.

Detectives served a search warrant at Sorenson’s home May 5, police said, and recovered multiple “key pieces of evidence” related to identity theft. They impounded two Lexus vehicles.

In addition to the charges of identity theft and grand theft, Sorenson was also arrested on suspicion of being an ex-felon in possession of ammunition, being ex-felon in possession of a stun gun and being in possession of narcotics.

His next court date is June 13 pre-hearing conference, said Greg Risling, a Los Angeles County District Attoey’s Office spokesman, in an email.
