Woman found on the street in Lakewood suffering from gunshot wound

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances behind a woman who was found on a Lakewood street suffering a gunshot wound Friday moing.

The department received a 911 call at 9:41 a.m. and deputies were dispatched to the scene in the street near 205th Street and Jersey Avenue where they found the victim, described only as a white woman in her 30s, said Sgt. Paul Jeigan, a watch commander at Lakewood Station.

She suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach area and is in stable condition at a local hospital, Jeigan said. The woman, however, has not been cooperating with investigators thus far.

No further information was available as of 11:15 a.m.
