POMONA >> Musical acts from the 1980s and ’90s will dominate the offerings from the LA County Fair this year, ranging from hip-hop artist Vanilla Ice to legendary singer Blondie.

More mode-day entertainers include comedian/actor Gabriel Iglesias and country artists Billy Currington and LeA Rimes.

“We covered the board here in so many genres … it’s appealing to lots of people,” said Dale Coleman, vice president at Fairplex who books the fair’s acts. He also promises to aounce “some current acts … in the not-too-distant future which is exciting for young people.”

Last year’s lineup attracted 100,000 people, Coleman said, averaging 7,000 people for each concert. Both figures represented records.

“We expect more of the same this year,” Coleman said. “It’s gratifying to book very diverse types of lineups and see that reflected when people go and see the show.”

Tickets for the individual acts go on sale Friday. So far aounced are:

  • • Rock band Bad Company, Sept. 3

  • • Mexican pop/rock band Camila, Sept. 4

  • • R & B’s The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald & Eest Isley, and The O’Jays, Sept. 5

  • • Soul and funk band WAR with Tierra & Malo, Sept. 8

  • • Comedian/actor Gabriel Iglesias, Sept. 11

  • • I Love the ’90s tour featuring hip-hop and R&B acts Vanilla Ice, Kid N Play, Color Me Badd, All 4 One, Tone Loc and Young MC, Sept. 16

  • • Country’s Lee Brice with special guest Jon Pardi, Sept. 17

  • • Ranchera’s Los Temerarios, Sept. 18

  • • Country’s Billy Currington with special guest LeA Rimes, Sept. 24

  • Coleman said he had been trying to book Blondie for 10-plus years, but it never worked out because of scheduling issues.

  • Nostalgia has always done well, so Coleman expects the same with the I Love the ’90s tour, he said.

  • In Coleman’s 15 years of booking the fair, there’s never been a comedian as a headliner. But Iglesias is a special case, he said.

  • “Gabriel’s comedy is so broad, he can pull it off,” Coleman said. “I expect a huge crowd that night.”
