Long Beach firefighters knock down garage fire in MacArthur Park neighborhood

Authorities are investigating a garage fire that broke out Tuesday afteoon in Long Beach’s MacArthur Park neighborhood.

Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at 3:34 p.m. in the 1500 block of Gaviota Avenue, said Jake Heflin, a department spokesman.

At the scene, they discovered the fire coming from a garage with an apartment unit over it, Heflin said. In total four fire engines, one truck one paramedic unit and one battalion chief were sent to the scene.

The fire was knocked down at 3:45 p.m., he said. As of 4 p.m. the American Red Cross had not been requested to assist.
