Long Beach police plan DUI saturation patrol Saturday night

Long Beach police are plaing additional patrols this weekend in areas known for high numbers of drunken or drug-impaired driving crashes and arrests.

The DUI saturation patrols will be held from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. Officers will look for alcohol and drug impairment, and will check drivers for licensing.

Police encourage those who plan to drink alcohol to arrange for a sober driver or to call a cab. The Califoia Office of Traffic Safety has a Designated Driver VIP, DDVIP, mobile app for free download on Apple and Android devices. It allows users to find bars and other establishments that offer free incentives to designated drivers.

The app also allows those who choose to drink to order a sober ride from several ride share services.
