Things to do in Long Beach this weekend: Music, food and raising funds

Long Beach Vegan Fest: Music, vendors and meat-free food are in store at the first-ever event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Rainbow Lagoon Park in downtown. Music includes Long Beach’s very own, Knyght Ryder and DJ Jack Pharaoh as well as Denmantau, Feli and the Lemon Shakers, Gambler’s Mark and Americana Super Radio. The Activity Area will feature yoga throughout the day, face painting, Inspiring and Fun Activities and Crafts for the kids and delicious cold pressed juices and elixirs from our area sponsors, Shakti Juice.

Creation Station at Rancho Los Cerritos: The historic site is offering an exciting afteoon of colorful “rainbow surprises” on Saturday. Activities will include painting butterflies, creating engravings, and crafting vibrant mosaics, using every color of the rainbow. This drop-in, historically-themed craft workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and is perfect for children ages 5-11. The Rancho is located at 4600 Virginia Road, Long Beach.

Shipkicker at the Queen Mary: The Queen Mary goes country once again with ShipKicker, the 2nd aual country music festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Queen Mary Events Park.

Memory of the Waves paddle out: In honor of Breakwater Awareness Month, Assemblyman Patrick O’Doell invites the public to join him for the aual event. Attendees will also receive an update on the Army Corps of Engineers’ East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study and the potential to reconfigure the Long Beach Breakwater. Program begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Granada Launch Ramp at Granada Avenue and Ocean Boulevard.

Scuba Show 2016: Over 76,000 square feet of exhibit space, 300-plus exhibitors, seminars and clinics, film festival, and more. Saturday and Sunday at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Pacific Islander Festival: Discover the cultures of the Pacific Islands through traditional craft demonstrations, ethnic cuisine, educational programs, and live entertainment, including music and dance performances. Watch hula, listen to Tahitian drumming, try out ancient Hawaiian games, enjoy island cuisine, and admire artisans as they create traditional weavings. Event is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Aquarium of the Pacific.

JDRF One Walk: More than 1,500 advocates representing local businesses, families, schools, and other organizations are expected to participate in the event on Sunday at Marina Green. The event is one of more than 200 community Walks nationwide that bring together hundreds of thousands of people each year who share JDRF’s mission to create a world without type 1 diabetes. The event volunteer leadership has set a fundraising goal of $150,000, which will help fund critically needed T1D research.
